How to Remove the Background from a Video Without a Green Screen

A green screen used to be required for cut-out effects. Modern segmentation models can find the person in each frame directly, which means you can change the background of ordinary footage.

How to do it

1. Import your clip in the editor and select it.
2. In the Effects tab, switch on Remove background.
3. Open Canvas settings (click empty space on the timeline) and choose a background photo or colour.
4. Add captions or effects on top and export.

Getting clean edges

• Light yourself evenly; harsh side-lighting confuses the model.
• Wear colours that differ from the real background.
• Keep hands and props inside the frame and avoid very fast motion.
• Use a background with a similar colour temperature to your lighting.

Ideas for backgrounds

A solid brand colour for a clean explainer, a blurred studio photo for a podcast look, or another video layered on the Overlay track for a news-style or reaction format.
