How Cutlab handles your files
Short version: the editor and tools run in your browser, so your files stay on your device. Here is exactly what runs where, including the one exception.
| Feature | Runs in | What leaves your device |
|---|---|---|
| Video editor, timeline, effects, export | Your browser | Nothing. Your footage is not uploaded. |
| AI captions (Whisper speech recognition) | Your browser | The model files are downloaded once from Hugging Face and cached. Your audio and video are not sent anywhere. |
| Background removal (video) | Your browser | A small model file hosted on our own site is downloaded; no video leaves your device. |
| Background remover (photos) and stickers | Your browser | The model files are downloaded once from Hugging Face; your photos are not uploaded. |
| Image, PDF, audio and video tools (FFmpeg, pdf.js) | Your browser | Nothing. The processing engines are hosted on our own site. |
| Caption fonts | Google Fonts | Your browser requests font files from Google, so Google can see that request (like any site using Google Fonts). |
| Video downloader | Our download server | The link you paste is sent to the server, which fetches the public video and returns it to you. Temporary files are deleted after sending. This is the only feature that uses a server. |
| Saved stickers | Your browser storage | Stored on your device only (IndexedDB); clearing site data removes them. |
Questions
Does Cutlab upload my videos or photos?
No. The editor and all tools process files inside your browser. The exception is the downloader, which needs a server to fetch a public video from a link you paste.
Is any external AI service used for captions?
No audio or video is sent to an AI service. The speech model is downloaded to your browser (from Hugging Face the first time) and runs locally, so your first caption run needs a download and later runs reuse the cached model.
Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts, and Cutlab does not ask for personal details.
Does Cutlab use analytics or ad trackers?
Not at the moment. The hosting provider may keep standard server logs. If analytics are added, this page will say so.
What are the limits of local processing?
Speed and file size depend on your device's memory and processor. Export currently records in real time, so keep the tab open and visible.
